About HumeRICS
Background
The cancer Services Framework for Victoria aims to ensure the right treatment and support is provided to patients as early as possible in their cancer journey. The reforms are being delivered through the development of the Integrated Cancer Services (ICS). The ICS are a state-wide service system for the delivery of cancer treatment and care. The concept is that each ICS will comprise clusters of hospitals and associated health services that deliver services for people with all types of cancers within a geographic area. It is envisaged that an ICS system will improve the delivery of cancer services through the development of clear and formal communication processes, referral patterns and relationships between services to meet the needs of people with cancer. Hume RICS established in 2004 is one of the nine Integrated cancer services (ICS) that have been established across Victoria in five regional and three metropolitan areas and a Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.
Priority areas have been identified for cancer service improvement including:
• Care co-ordination • Multidisciplinary care • Reducing variations in care • Psychosocial care

The ICS have been established with a commitment to improve the care of all Victorians with cancer through the better integration of services provided to patients in different settings. The driving force for this initiative is the expected increase in demand for cancer care and treatment due to the projected increases expected in cancer incidence and the ageing of the population.
