“Foothold on Safety” (FOS) community based projects, funded by Department of Human Services, are currently being conducted by the Central Hume Primary Care Partnership (PCP), Upper Hume PCP, Goulburn Valley PCP, and Lower Hume PCP. These projects aim to minimize falls by a range of Falls Prevention Strategies and Actions:
- Awareness Raising
- Assessments – people and sites
- Activities -Physical and social
- Accessible programs and places

The Falls Prevention Hume Partnership (FPHP)
was launched regionally in August, 2004. Several local launches have taken place in recent months:
- The Alexandra hospital launched the Lower Hume PCP project ( hospital, residential care and community based program named “Steps ahead”.) in April 2005.
- The Mansfield (community based) local Falls prevention launch organised by Ovens and King Community Health Service (OKCHS) took place on in April 2005.
The first Australian Falls Prevention Conference was held on 21 – 23 November, 2004 at Manly, Sydney, through the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute, University of NSW . Over 400 delegates attended from UK, USA, Canada, China, New Zealand and around Australia . Over 150 papers were delivered, ranging from hospital based research to community projects, and poster sessions and trade exhibitions were on show. It was a great exchange of research and ideas in falls prevention! For more information check:
